I must admit that I do have cable and do watch a fair amount of TV and do sometimes not have any food in the house, but I'm a single guy living alone (well, me and the dog, but I always make sure he's got food to eat) In my case though, the only one who suffers if I choose to skip a meal is me as I am not responsible for feeding young children who have not choice and cannot fend for themselves. Also, it's not like I'm starving myself or malnurished, I just don't eat as much or as healthy as I probably should.

In my opinion, the worst are:
1. People with children that need to learn to be responsible and take care of the children
2. People that worry about cable more than electricity such as in your example, there again seem irresponsible and illogical (TV don't work without power, lights don't work, refrigerator, microwave, etc etc)

(Without wanting to judge, I wouldn't feel too guilty if it *does* make you angry.)

TV can numb people. Maybe that's how she deals with the situation she's in... by numbing her senses.

But yeah, got to get your priorities straight.

As Dan Kennedy says... "Rich people have large libraries, poor people have large TV's."

Forget about cable, if she has 6 kids and has to rely on food stamps to feed them, she should sell her TV too!

We have cable because we have cable internet, but my time watching TV is virtually nil. I don't understand MANY people's priorities or thoughts(more so as I read about certain vice-presidential candidates) but as you said, I'm not walking in their shoes. NOR do I want to!

Margaret's last blog post..Still here

I would love cable but simply can't afford it on a teacher's salary without giving up something major. Of course not having kids is a factor in this.
