Break-in

Posted on | December 10, 2008 | 10 Comments

Yesterday, I came home and noticed that my laptop was missing. It had been sitting right smack dab in the middle of the kitchen table. I looked around the house, and then called Greg to see if he had taken. He hadn’t. So then I called the police, who came over, found an unlocked window (!!) and three muddy footprints.

I wish the dog wasn’t so stinky. I had put her in the back of the house where she couldn’t get out. Nothing was stolen from the back of the house.

However, in addition to my laptop, my iPod was stolen (along with the cord, which was hidden in a box underneath the TV) and hundreds of dollars of software. Unfortunately, the software was in a CD case that also included my novel–the backup copy.

So, the novel is gone gone gone. I guess it was never meant to be.

I am mad mad mad.

When will all this shit quit happening????

I know what that feels like. It’s a tremendous violation, and I’m sorry to hear it happened to you.

Oh Michelle I am so very sorry to hear this! I know it sucks, I had a car stolen 2 days before Christmas a while back. Sadly, they told me these types of things always get worse near the holidays. So very sad. Thankfully you are all safe. And so sorry about the novel.

Not to sounds jaded, but people are horrible shits.

On a positive note, you could always take this as an excuse to write a proper full-on second draft of your novel, re-evaluating it from the ground up.

Question – “When will all this shit quit happening????”
    Answer – Never

Shit happens all the time, but it was particularly disheartening to learn that you had lost your novel. It’s relatively easy to replace the rest of the stuff…

I hope you won’t let this kill off your novel. As Pacian said, why not go for novel mk2?

Wishing you better luck in the future…

I can understand why you would feel this way. Losing all that stuff is bad enough, but the violation of someone breaking in would PISS ME OFF. And losing the novel is major. I’m so sorry!

I’m so sorry to hear about your laptop. That really stinks big time. I believe in Karma and you know what they say about payback. Will insurance cover the cost of a new one?

Ooh! I’m so sorry! I’ll admit to having a poor back-up system and this would be a warning to all of us to make back-ups. Unless, those are stolen too. Sorry!

Sorry to hear about this. As some of the others have said, I think the loss of the novel is the worst part! Hope things get better before you before Christmas!
