Worrywarting

I feel bad. Really, I haven’t felt this negative in a long time. A lot of it has to do with watching reading the news. I am going to quit, other than just getting the basics from the front page of the paper, because I am seriously starting to obsess, which really isn’t helping anything. Watching the the peso drop makes me feel so sad for the Mexican people, who have been having enough challenges lately as it is. And looking at the Swine Flu Google Map just gives me a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I’ve been thinking about how artificial borders really are.

And it being TAKS week really doesn’t help me feel more chipper.

LOL TAKS

Sage’s teacher has a cool thing that she does before TAKS (insert your state’s sucky standardized test here) day. She asks the parents to give her a note for the kids to see for the first time during the test. It is supposed to be a note of encouragement or something like that. Here’s what Varmint and I did for Sage:

To put this in context, I’ve had to limit his access to LOL Cats to Saturdays. Otherwise, he’ll pester me every day to go to that site. I’m sure his teacher will be pleased by the spelling I’m the cat is modeling here…

Ugly Perceptions

Today, I’ve had the pleasure of having one of those crying jags that pretty much lasts all day and leaves the eyes swollen and a headache behind.

The thing is, the principal jumped my shit this morning over stuff I thought was really unfair. There’s some weird stuff going on that I don’t feel comfortable even writing about here, but I’ve seen this coming. I just want to quit. Right now.

I’ve been so fortunate not to have EVER had a boss who acted ugly to me since I was a 20 year old nanny in New York. When she did, I quit on the spot. I’ve always felt blessed when I’ve heard other people’s nightmare boss stories, because by and large, I’ve been spared. I’ve had a couple of losers, but nothing like this sort of disrespect.

I’m not one to just shut up and take it. I also find it difficult to change my entire personality, which is pretty much what I’d need to do to get along in this situation. My mother suggested becoming more of an ass-kisser, which is good advice, but advice that I am loathe to take.

Weird. Since my old principal quit, I’ve went from being an expert to being a meddler, from going above and beyond to “shirking my duty” and I’m doing the same things I did last year. Ah, perceptions.

I’m so frickin’ depressed. I want OUT.

When the Tough Get Trained

Whenever I tell people what I do, the response tends to be, “What a tough job. I couldn’t do that. Are you scared of the kids?” and things like that. It is easy to bask in the glow of feeling somehow “tougher” than people who don’t work with kids who have attacked people, but I think people who have first responder jobs have a way more admirable job and have to be way tougher than I am. They also have to have a better handle on their stress than I do, I’m sure! If you’re the sort of person who is good in a crisis (a pretty much ongoing one), then you might be interested in obtaining
emergency first responder training.

If you’re already a first responder, you definitely have my admiration! Are you aware that you can easily get continuing education at the National Paramedic Institutes’s site through Medic Monthly? Modules feature case-based learning, streaming video and other online materials to keep it interesting. Each module is worth 1.5 continuing education credits. It is insanely affordable, with each credit only costing seven dollars. There are package deals that you can buy for the year that are even a better deal, and not only is it offered to individuals, but the whole department can get on board.

There is information on the National Paramedic Institute site regarding each state’s accreditation requirements, as well, so all of the information you need is at your fingertips.

Get Started in Real Estate

Last summer, I was seriously thinking about getting my appraiser’s license. I haven’t done so because I can’t seem to decide where exactly it is where I want to live. At any rate, I’ve found another resource that offers
real estate sales training, appraisal training and much more. One of the trainings offered is a business planning course. For people without business experience, I think this would be very valuable. Without business knowledge, it really doesn’t matter what your qualifications are if you plan to be successful.

Although The Real Estate Training Center focuses on training, it offers a lot more. I like the freebies that they have. You can sign up for a free email newsletter that contains how-to articles relevant to the field. Also, you can get a free blog page on their site. From an SEO perspective, this is a nice way to further promote your business.

The Real Estate Training Center has some good articles right on the front page of their site as well. If you are a real estate professional or are considering becoming one, this is one of the best resources on the web that I’ve seen.

Get Better Leads, Sell More Loans

If you are a mortgage broker, you know you how impossible it would be to stay in business without a good source of
mortgage leads. ZipSearch.com offers a mortgage and insurance lead service that will connect mortgage brokers and lenders with potential clients. There are several different types of leads that can be generated. For example, it is easy to obtain refinance leads, home equity leads, purchase leads (this might be a good source for a realtor as well!), subprime leads, forclosure leads and government leads. So, they pretty much have you covered if you’re in this line of business.

An example of a lead is available at the website. It is very comprehensive, giving you access to your potential client’s name, address, amount of loan sought, type of loan sought, address, phone number and property type. As an added bonus, contact information is included, for example, “Don’t call after 8 P.M.”

With 35 years of lead buying and selling experience, you should get a much better quality of lead than from newer companies. As an added bonus, ZipSearch shares their experience with you by providing audio interviews on their site offering tips and instruction on how to close more leads and related topics. Interestingly, for those of you who do email campaigns, there is a list of words on their site that you should never include in an email subject line lest it get marked as spam. Regardless of your profession, this list is a useful one!

More useful information is found on the blog. This is definitely a site worth investigating if you are in this field, and if you are a potential client, it gives you the inside scoop–always a good thing to have!

Get Funding for Your Business the Right Way

One of the difficulties in starting a new business is getting working capital. If
small business loans are something that you are researching, you should know that you can obtain one in only one to three weeks at EZUnsecured. No collateral is necessary, and approval only takes one to three days. A great advantage of going through EZUnsecured is that they are very selective in selecting which lenders to send your application to. Did you know that if you apply for credit over and over again to the wrong places, then you can lose points on your credit report? That’s not something to take a chance with if getting a loan is important to you. Besides, getting your application sent to a lender who is likely to approve it saves time!

Make Sure You’re Covered Overseas

If you find yourself in the position of not having
individual health insurance in the United States, you could be putting your finances, and maybe even your health at risk. That’s why it is so important to have health insurance if you can at all afford it. In the United States, our medical system seems to be going down the drain, so if I were an expat living over here, I certainly would want to have insurance. That’s where Bupa International comes in. They provide
medical insurance to 8 million people in 190 countries.

Of course this works for many different situations. If I decide to go live in South America, I could get a
free medical insurance quote before I go. I’m pretty sure that it is a worldwide phenomena that individuals who have health insurance tend to have better medical outcomes than those who don’t. Unfortunate, but too true.

Bupa’s website also offers information about medical conditions, in addition to its many other services. With a 24 hour multilingual helpline, customer service is quite convenient! There are also over 5,500 participating clinics and hospitals worldwide.

This health insurance site, by the way, offers better information about travel than many travel sites! You can find out facts about many diverse countries, such as which diseases are common. There is also a guide to help you to move to another country. Whether you are staying at home, traveling or moving to another country, Bupa is definitely worth a look.

Taxes!

I got my tax return today, and I’ve already filed it electronically. I’m getting about 5K back this year. Being “head of household” has its perks. I have a feeling that next year it won’t be so good. The writing income isn’t taxed when I receive it, so I’d better start thinking of some good write-offs and getting ready to itemize. This automatic yearly savings account boost isn’t going to be something I can count on for much longer! I suppose that’s a good thing–as long as I can keep myself from spending the extra money during the year!

Make Some Heavy Bucks in This Career

Really, it seems like the possibilities for career-switching are endless. Have you ever thought about training to become a heavy equipment operator? I wouldn’t mind working around some of those hunky guys, and the after-work beer would be a nice bonus, right? Not to mention that some of those guys (and gals) take home some serious bucks. If you’re interested, you should read the
blog about ATS equipment school, because it has some good articles about heavy equipment operation. One of the articles mentions the effect of bad weather on earnings, and recommends getting a certification to operate equipment that is not dependent upon the weather. That is the absolute truth. I can’t tell you how much G. hated rainy weather when he was working as a tree trimmer. Bad weather, no work. Fortunately, there’s plenty of other options for heavy equipment operators. Options, and bucks.
