Lose Your Accent and Make More Money

Whenever I think about accent reduction, I think about how employers may assume that a interviewee from the southern United States is less intelligent than his or her counterpart from the North. Studies have backed this up. Of course, it doesn’t apply if the person doing the interviewing is a southerner themselves. Still, it does demonstrate how accent reduction can be an important part of career advancement. Fortunately for me, my high school speech teacher recognized that, and taught us Texas kids accent reduction early on. I’ve learned that she was right to do so.

ELT is a language school that has been around for a while. I remember hearing about them when I was getting my Master’s degree in ESL. Accent reduction is especially important for people who are doing business using their second or third language. Most of the time, we think of individuals who need to work on their reducing an accent in order to better speak English, and ELT certainly addresses that. However, there are two sides of this coin. ELT also offers courses such as
Chinese language training so that English (and other) speakers who are participating in the global marketplace can reduce their accents in Chinese as well. I know my Chinese accent is awful. Never mind that I only speak a few words–I might as well be telling a joke for all of the laughs that I get! So if you speak a second language and want to be more successful in business, definitely consider working on your accent, because it’s almost guaranteed that you have one.

Changing Careers? What About Real Estate?

I can’t help but think of Margaret as I write this post. She is the other teacher I know who is seriously considering changing careers. And, she just got back from having a blast in Las Vegas! Well, here’s the answer: we should attend the
Las Vegas real estate school.

I have thought about getting my real estate license before. I researched that, among other things, this summer. One of the advantages to going for a career in real estate is that you have the option of taking lots of classes online, which is something that Key Realty School offers.

The thing about obtaining a real-estate license is that it gives you flexibility. You can decide to take on a lot of work, or only a little. You can go for the gold with promotion of your services, or simply sell to family and friends who were going to buy anyway. This latter reason may be reason enough to get the license! Some extra money never hurts!

WordPress Crack

I’m totally addicted to WordPress themes. I’m really loving the one I have on this blog. Check out my other two blogs that I am developing–I just love the themes I found for them.

Threads of Ink: Sound familiar? This blog is devoted to writing, for the most part. Of course, I’m hoping I can do something with it later. I have several ideas.

Kitchen to Cocina: I’m not feeling inspired on this one, but I’m making it anyway, for reasons that may be becoming obvious. One of the things I am trying to do is put an eBay niche store (BANS) on it to sell kitchen products, but that is proving difficult. Probably the most difficult thing will be driving traffic to it, though. That is so incredibly time consuming.

Anyway, back to the themes. I like Smashing Magazine’s excellent article highlighting 100 Excellent Free Quality WordPress Themes. They have really found some good ones. I keep wanting to make new blogs just so I can use some more of them. Someone please stop me!!
